Meditation (from Latinmeditatio "contemplation, thinking"; from Greekμέδομαι medomai "to think, to ponder", but also from μελέτη melete "exercise, practice" as a translation from Hebrewהָגָה hagah "to sigh, lament, murmur"[1] in the Old Testament) is a basic spiritual exercise, a "contemplative reflection" (Lit.:GA 10, p. 38), in which the soul forces are strengthened and shaped through suitable soul exercises, the willful concentration on an activity, a perception, a thought or similar. Soul organs are thereby gradually formed in the astral body, which lead to a higher spiritual perception and a higher condition of consciousness connected with it.

„These exercises include concentration, i.e. the directing of attention to very specific ideas and concepts connected with the mysteries of the world. And it also includes meditation, which is the living in such ideas, the complete immersion in them in a prescribed manner. By concentrating and meditating man works on his soul.“ (Lit.:GA 10, p. 176)

Thus the LORD says to Joshua concerning the Law given to Moses: "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, and you shall meditate on it day and night (Hebrew הָגִ֤יתָ hāḡîṯā), so that you may take care to act according to all that is written in it; for then you will reach your goal in your ways, and then you will prosper."
