The I-consciousness or self-awareness, i.e. the knowledge and realisation of one's own I, can only be developed by man on Earth. It is the other pole of the outwardly directed object-consciousness that is inseparably connected with it. Through this subject-object split, reality is torn into two unreal halves, which are only reunited in the act of cognition, as Rudolf Steiner described it in detail, namely in his "Philosophy of Freedom".
