666
666 (Greek: ἑξακόσιοι ἑξήκοντα ἕξ hexakósioi hexēkonta héx) is a number mentioned in several places in the Bible. The most famous passage is found in the Apocalypse of John. Six hundred and sixty-six here stands for the Number of the Beast (Greek: Ἀριθμὸς τοῦ θηρίου Arithmos tou Thēriou), which is also the number of a human being:
„Ὧδε ἡ σοφία ἐστίν- ὁ ἔχων νοῦν ψηφισάτω τὸν ἀριθμὸν τοῦ θηρίου- ἀριθμὸς γὰρ ἀνθρώπου ἐστί- καὶ ὁ ἀριθμὸς αὐτοῦ ἑξακόσιοι ἑξήκοντα ἕξ.“
„This calls for wisdom: let the one who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and his number is 666.“
666 is here the name of the two-horned beast, the Sun or Earth demon Sorat, encoded as a number. This number is also the Sign of the Beast, which everyone who follows him wears on his forehead and on his right hand:
„16 Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, 17 so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name.“
