Anthropology, as the doctrine or science of man and in this sense as the basic study of man, is today predominantly understood as natural scientific anthropology and conceives of man as a physical being in a physical environment. In contrast, theosophy focuses on the purely spiritual human being who can only be experienced supersensually. According to Rudolf Steiner, anthroposophy attempts to bridge the gap that opens up between these two opposing perspectives.
