According to Rudolf Steiner, the separation of the Sun from the Earth, which at that time still contained the Moon, took place during the Earth evolution in the so-called Hyperborean period. The descriptions of the biblical creation story also begin at this time.

„This separation of the Sun from the Earth had to take place at some time, for if the two bodies of the world had remained connected with each other as they were at the beginning of the development of the Earth, the progress of the development of mankind would not have been able to give man his actual significance on Earth. All that which we call the Sun, that is, of course, not only the elementary or physical elements of the solar body, but also all the spiritual beings which belong to the solar body, all this had to emerge, so to speak, from the Earth, or, if one finds it more correct, it had to repel the Earth from itself, because, trivially speaking, the forces of those beings which have transferred their scene from the Earth to the Sun would have had too strong an effect on the flourishing of man if they had remained connected with the Earth. These beings had to weaken their powers, as it were, by moving out from the earthly scene and working from without.“ (Lit.:GA 122, p. 159f)

Sorat and the Separation of Earth and Sun in the Hyperborean Period

The influence of the solar demon Sorat, who is described in the Apocalypse of John, plays an essential role in the separation of the Sun. In the Hyperborean period, his condensing, hardening forces caused the Earth, which at that time still carried the Moon within it, to separate from the Sun as an independent celestial body. As an abnormal Spirit of Form, it initially created an invagination on the periphery of the etheric Sun-Earth sphere, in which the initially purely spiritual form broke and materialised as the physical Earth, similar to the other planets. This was counteracted by the powers of the solar intelligence Nachiel (Lit.:GA 101, p. 135ff), through which the Sun could further refine and spiritualise itself, thus enabling the Elohim to carry out their work of creation. The descriptions of the biblical Genesis begin at about this time (Lit.:GA 122, p. 35)
