The life spirit (skrt. Buddhi; Greek Χριστός Chrestós) is the second of the three spiritual members of the human being. In the Jewish Kabbalah, the life spirit is called Chaja (Hebrew: חיה) and is centred on the Tree of Life of the Kabbalah in the second Sephira Chochmah (wisdom). According to Rudolf Steiner, the Hebrew term Kohelet (Hebrew: קהלת "preacher, gatherer, community leader") also stands for this (Lit.:GA 116, p. 83). The term Buddhi is first mentioned in the Katha Upanishad:
A charioteer is, know,
The Atman, chariot is the body,
Steering the chariot is Buddhi
Manas, know, is the reins.
Katha Upanishad: 3.3
