Contents

These two volumes (GA 90a and GA 90b) contain a hundred transcripts, some of them fragmentary, of lectures given to members in the early years of Rudolf Steiner's Theosophical work (1903-1906). The wide range of topics shows how Rudolf Steiner drew on his own sources, away from the traditional teaching material, and opened up a new approach to Western esotericism for the membership. Even if the transcripts do not correspond to the completeness and quality of the later stenographic notes, the notes do give an impression of the density of content and the richness of this early teaching activity. Rudolf Steiner develops connections that show numerous references to the content of the first Basic Writings with their intellectually and methodologically precisely developed explanations, and there are also interesting parallels to already published volumes with lectures from these years. The lectures are primarily arranged by location and subsequently chronologically. This makes it possible to follow the continuous work of Rudolf Steiner, at the respective place, which was concerned with a thematic development of anthroposophy in the theosophical context. The edition also contains two manuscript facsimiles: of the transmission of the Beatitudes from the Gospel of Matthew and from a notebook, as well as illustrations of a lecture manuscript and smaller transcript sketches. Since it can be assumed that these audience transcripts circulated, it also provides an insight into the mood of the members who experienced Rudolf Steiner at that time.
