This volume is a supplement to the already published volume GA 331 of the Gesamtausgabe with the title 'Works Councils and Socialisation'. There it documents the attempt to link Rudolf Steiner's outline of the threefolding of the social organism with the movement of workers' and works councils. The present volume now brings together further documents, most of which are only very fragmentary, which show the struggle for a reorganisation of social relations. The editors have reconstructed the lectures and discussions from Rudolf Steiner's notes, which are reproduced in facsimile in the appendix. The contributions and votes of the committed contributors show how the impulses of Rudolf Steiner and his comrades-in-arms are met partly with enthusiasm and partly with rejection. In the course of the efforts, it becomes increasingly apparent how the advocacy of workers' councils in the sense of threefolding failed due to the ideological fixations of the leading personalities and internal party disputes. Rudolf Steiner's repeated reference that behind the 'stomach demand' of the proletarian question lies the hunger for the spiritual was seen as weakening the revolutionary struggle of the workers. Through the multitude of documents - lectures, contributions to discussions, meetings and letters - a collage-like volume has emerged that vividly traces the mood of the time, but also the tragedy of failure.
