Art History as a Reflection of Inner Spiritual Impulses

Kunstgeschichte als Abbild innerer geistiger Impulse

Thirteen lectures with light pictures in Dornach between 8 October 1916 and 29 October 1917.

With a sequence of over 700 light pictures, Rudolf Steiner showed the lines of development in art history in these lectures. He starts from the great turning point in the 15th century, the Renaissance, looks back to its roots in Greek classicism and the forms of early Christianity and then makes clear the independent development of these forces in the Central European regions: from the climax of Dürer to the climax of Rembrandt. He rarely speaks in detail about the individual works of art, but all the more forcefully about the spiritual forces that are expressed in them.
