Varuna (Sanskritm., वरुण Varuṇa "the enveloper") is, according to Vedic tradition, the god of cosmic order, of the all-enveloping heaven (→ crystal heaven), and is, as Rudolf Steiner also confirms, comparable to the Greek Uranus. (Lit.:GA 93, p. 48) He is regarded as the highest of the seven original Adityas.

According to [[Rudolf Steiner}}, Varuna is also the supreme being of the undines, the elementary beings of water.
