The Essence of Anthroposophy

Das Wesen der Anthroposophie

Twenty-two public lectures in various cities 1921-1922.

Contents

In January and May 1922 Rudolf Steiner undertook two extensive lecture tours organised by the concert management Wolff and Sachs following the success of two lectures in 1921. The tours took him through the cities of Munich, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Mannheim, Cologne, Elberfeld, Hanover, Berlin, Hamburg, Bremen, Dresden, Breslau. The first tour took place in front of sold-out auditoriums throughout. This changed during the second tour, during which, for the first time in Munich, there were riots, so that the further lectures could only be held under security precautions. After that Rudolf Steiner gave no more public lectures in Germany. The volume contains mainly parallel lectures, all of which have transcripts, so that many have the same title: "The Essence of Anthroposophy" or "Anthroposophy and Spiritual Knowledge". Rudolf Steiner, however, never gave his lectures in the same way, even if they were on the same subject. He commented on this as follows: "... precisely when one speaks from city to city on the same subject, and speaks it from the spiritual world, then one notices how one actually, although the subject is the same, has to wrestle again for each individual lecture to find the right words which speaking in the present makes necessary." This volume offers the opportunity to participate in Rudolf Steiner's struggle.
