On the History of the German Section of the Theosophical Society 1902-1913

Zur Geschichte der Deutschen Sektion der Theosophischen Gesellschaft 1902–1913

Lectures, Speeches, Reports and Minutes

This volume brings together for the first time documents on the history of the German Section of the Theosophical Society. Some of them have already been published elsewhere; here the materials are newly edited in their entirety and in an extensively annotated context. On the basis of Rudolf Steiner's lectures and addresses, as well as reports and minutes, some of them by other authors, it is possible to trace year by year the themes, problems and also conflicts with which the Society had to deal. Although in the end it was always about spiritual topics and tasks, the handling of motions, statements, questions of admission and exclusion show that the human conflicts required a lot of energy and strength. Rudolf Steiner approached everything with a clear attitude and did not allow himself to be swayed. As an introduction, the volume is preceded by an address by Rudolf Steiner from 1920: "On the History of the Origin and Development of the Anthroposophical Movement". Those who study these exciting and eventful years will better understand some of the nuances in Rudolf Steiner's lectures.

For the first time in the complete edition, the unique autobiographical lecture of 4 February 1913 is also printed here, which Steiner gave as a replica to various libels.
