Hell is the term used in many religions, cults and sects to describe the idea of the underworld as a place or state of torment and the abode of demons, to which the unconverted or evildoers (collectively: the wicked) of the respective religion are sent after their death. The term "hell" is derived from Hel, the goddess of the underworld in Germanic mythology.
