The Ophanim' (Hebrew: אוֹפַנִּים wheels singular אוֺפָן, Ophan; Latin: ophan[us], pl. ophani[m]) are exalted spiritual beings mentioned in the apocryphal Book of Enoch. In Hebrew their name means wheels. In fact, they are said to be the wheels of the Merkabah, the Throne Chariot of God, and are sometimes equated with the Thrones (Hebrew: גלגלים Galgalim "wheels"), who are the rulers of the Saturn sphere. The description corresponds to that in the Book of Daniel 7:9 and the vision of Ezekiel 1:1. Like the Cherubim and Seraphim, they never sleep and guard the Throne of God.
